Old towel = New heating pad

I got some cute scrub tops on sale this weekend, but have yet to sew the tops that I bought fabric for.  Today I cut a pattern (based on a top that fits me well) and fabric for one top.  Here's hoping it goes together nicely :)

The weekend went quick, but I did fit a little sewing in... making a rice heating pad for my Mom.  My Grandma has hers right now, and I just thought it'd be crazy to run to the store to buy another one... when they're really easy to make (and MUCH cheaper to DIY).

I folded an old hand towel in half lengthwise and stitched it into a tube.  I then added handles on each side, leaving a small opening on one end to add rice into the newly formed pouch.

After the rice was added, I stitched up the hole.  That was that!  I think it turned out kind of cute, especially for recycling old household items :)

Started another knitting project since I bought MORE yarn this weekend, lol.

Shadowing & up next

I've been job shadowing almost full time the last few weeks.  It's a great experience, and I'm learning a lot, but I wish I had more time to sew!  All my free time right now is going into catching up on chores, and slowly unpacking.

But, I did get some fun fabrics to make scrub tops (so I don't have to do laundry as often) so hopefully I'll get at least one made this weekend.  I hope to post about it soon!

Craft Cupboard Organization!

I LOVE organizing.  Before I can figure out a system that works for me, I have to move things around several, lol.  Poor Hubby never knows where things are!

Here is my current organization system for craft cupboard #1 (of 2 at the moment... not counting the spare bedroom walk-in closet :) )

I store a large pot (strictly for dying fabric) on top, and sometime whatever current project I'm working on that there isn't space for inside the cupboard.

Top shelf = Paint supplies & larger glue bottles/adhesives

2nd shelf from top = Kids crafts (things are slightly out of order :) )
The blue box on the left is full of random things for making quiet books!

3rd shelf from top = Felt & Quiet book supplies!  (I LOVE making quiet book pages & have several duplicate pages ready to be put together in those containers)

Bottom shelf = Scrap booking paper & books
My larger scrap booking papers are in a special carrying case that is tucked between this craft cupboard and the wall.  More of the delicate scrap booking supplies are in another cupboard.

Something Blue!

Last weekend my beautiful friend got married!  It was an absolutely gorgeous wedding.

I had the honor of being a bridesmaid, and while we were waiting before the ceremony, the Bride asked me if I'd sew the wedding date in blue into the lining of her dress!  This was her "something blue"  I thought that was such a neat idea, and it was so special that she trusted me enough to do this.

Garden is in!

It's been raining here, but we still managed to build and plant the garden!

I've read the you can use newspaper as weed mats, so gave it a try.  I just lined the bottom of the garden with it and added top soil, then garden soil.  Hopefully it works!  We'll see :)  I probably should have put more layers of it down... I just used what we had.

Finished getting it ready in the dark.  The dogs had a lot of fun running through it... eek! Just what I feared.

I planted the garden this morning, and we added a little fence... hoping to keep the dogs out.  We have mostly tomatoes, jalapenos, and bell peppers planted (Hubby was thinking salsa).  It's a bit over crowded right now, but I'll hopefully be transplanting some of the plants next week.  I didn't have room to plant the seeds we picked out... still brain storming on that :)
